Optimise calving intervals
Keep oestrus and calving events in view and optimise calving intervals.
With smaXtec, you keep an eye on every cow and make informed decisions from heat detection to calving.
smaXtec supports your reproductive management with the right information at the right time – and shows you where you can make a lasting difference.
Dairy cows often show signs of heats only briefly or at night. smaXtec’s automatic oestrus detection reliably identifies oestrus, in the barn and on pasture. When a heat is detected, you receive notification of a precise insemination window with the ideal timing for sexed and conventional semen. This means you no longer miss heats and can improve your herd’s reproductive success.
Calvings can happen at any time. smaXtec detects a drop in internal body temperature before calving and alerts you an average of 15 hours in advance. This early indication gives you enough time to prepare the calving area, carry out planned preventive measures and arrange support if complications are expected. Indications of possible twin births or calving complications also help you prepare.
The period around calving sets the foundation for the entire lactation. During this phase, the cow’s metabolism changes significantly and her need for energy, water and calcium increases. smaXtec also continuously monitors your dry cows, measuring their internal body temperature and other relevant parameters. This makes early indications of potential metabolic disorders, such as milk fever or ketosis, visible at the earliest possible stage so your cows can be checked in a targeted manner. This supports a stable start to lactation and helps secure your cows’ production potential.

“Our calving interval is reduced by over 30 days in the last 12 months. And that’s probably on around 50% of services.”
Johnny Lochhead UK, Scotland, 70 cows

“We’ve gone from having 57% of normal heats identified to now correctly identifying 74%, including girls that have had silent heats that we may have missed previously. That’s been exceptional.”
Wayne & Sarah Neilson New Zealand, 340 cows

“We get about 12 to 15 hours’ notice before a cow is going to calve. We can log that alert, keep monitoring those cows and move them at the last possible moment before we leave on an evening. I would say the calving alerts are about 95% accurate.”
Mark Allison UK, England, 650 cows
