We work continuously on developing improvements to our software, which we make available to our customers. This means you can be sure that you are always up to date and profit from our smart technology.
Calving detection is activated 14 days before/after the expected calving date. The calving notifications can be sent up to 36 hours before calving. However, we found out during a scientific study that a large part of the alerts are sent 6 to 20 hours before calving.
As we detect estrus based on changes in the activity of cows we cannot guarantee a reliable estrus detection due to reduced activity levels in tie stall barns. All other functions (calving detection, early detection of diseases, monitoring of drinking behavior, heat stress detection and pH measurement) work without any problems in tie-stall barns.
Any movement of the animal is continuously recorded via a normal 3D- accelerometer (like in cell phones). The recorded activity is summarized every 10 minutes in one data point and displayed in the smaXtec curve. Therefore, the smaXtec activity includes movements like walking, mountings during estrus or other activities. We do not distinguish between lying or standing, also single steps are not counted with our bolus (as pedometers do). The measurement is not negatively affected by the physiological rumen motility.
This date is the expiration date – the bolus should be activated by this date. In this example, the should be activated at the latest by 15. April 2018.
In contrast to rumination measurement, pH-measurement provides direct information about the rumen status of you cow. It is the most direct and the only parameter for feed monitoring. Rumination activity is subject to a wider range of external influences; i.e. it is more variable and individual animal specific, providing less insight into the rumen status.
The pH-values of rumen and reticulum are very closely connected. As the value is always measured at the same place in the reticulum, any changes of deviations of the pH-value can be traced back to management and ration.
